Ingredients

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

½ cup unsalted butter (1 stick)

1 cup powdered sugar

2 large eggs

2 large egg yolks

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup all-purpose flour

¼ teaspoon salt

Butter (for greasing ramekins)

Cocoa powder (for dusting)

Optional: Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (for serving)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins (6 oz each) with butter and dust with cocoa powder to prevent sticking. Place them on a baking sheet for easy handling.

Melt the chocolate and butter together in a double boiler, or by microwaving in short intervals, stirring until smooth. Let this mixture cool slightly.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and the slightly cooled chocolate mixture until well combined.

Add the eggs and egg yolks to the chocolate mixture, whisking vigorously until well blended. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Sift the flour and salt together, then fold them into the chocolate mixture gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling them about ¾ full.

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes. The edges should be firm, but the center should be soft and slightly jiggly.

Remove from the oven and let the cakes rest for 1 minute. Using a knife, gently run it around the edges of each ramekin to loosen the cakes.

Invert the cakes onto individual plates. Allow the ramekins to sit inverted for a few seconds before lifting them off. The cakes should release easily!

Serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top, if desired. Enjoy the molten chocolate center as you dig into this decadent dessert!
