1/2 lb ground pork

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

For the Sauce:

2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

1 tsp Italian seasoning

For Assembling:

4 hoagie rolls or sub sandwich buns

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Extra chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

    Make the Meatballs:

      - In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, minced garlic, egg, salt, black pepper, oregano, and basil. Mix until just combined; be careful not to overwork the meat.

        - Shape the mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

          Bake the Meatballs:

            - Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are browned and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C).

              Prepare the Sauce:

                - While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in red pepper flakes and Italian seasoning. Allow it to simmer for about 5-10 minutes.

                  Combine Meatballs and Sauce:

                    - Once the meatballs are done, add them to the saucepan with the marinara sauce. Gently toss until the meatballs are well coated.

                      Assemble the Subs:

                        - Place the hoagie rolls on a baking sheet. Spoon meatballs and sauce into each roll, filling them generously.

                          - Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

                            Melt the Cheese:

                              - Place the assembled subs in the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

                                Garnish and Serve:

                                  - Remove from the oven and let cool for a minute. Garnish with extra chopped parsley if desired. Serve immediately with a side of extra marinara for dipping!
