Ingredients

2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon baking powder

1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature

1 ½ cups granulated sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon almond extract (optional for extra flavor)

½ teaspoon salt

½ cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Sprinkles or colored sugar (optional for decoration)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

Add Egg and Extracts: Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) to the butter mixture. Beat until well combined.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix on low speed just until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix.

Form Cookies: Scoop out tablespoon-sized balls of dough and roll them in powdered sugar until fully coated. Place them on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart, as they will spread while baking.

Add Sprinkles (Optional): If you want to decorate your cookies, gently press a few sprinkles or colored sugar onto the top of each dough ball.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers might look a little underbaked; that’s okay! Remove from the oven.

Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Enjoy: Once cooled, dig in and enjoy your soft, delicious sugar cookies!
