Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark, as preferred)

1 cup boiling water

Optional: whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish or a similar sized casserole dish.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder. Stir until well combined.

Add Wet Ingredients: Pour in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture. Stir until just combined — it's okay if some lumps remain.

Add Chocolate Chips: Fold in the chocolate chips gently to ensure even distribution throughout the batter.

Spread in Dish: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Don’t worry if it seems thick; it will spread as it bakes.

Boil Water: In a separate pot or kettle, bring 1 cup of water to a rolling boil.

Top with Water: Without stirring, carefully pour the boiling water over the batter in the baking dish. This will create a delicious chocolate sauce at the bottom while the cobbler bakes.

Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, until the top has set and is slightly cracked, yet still gooey underneath.

Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Serve warm, topped with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
