Ingredients

1 lb ground turkey

1/4 cup chopped red onion

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup smoked paprika

1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp chili powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp olive oil

4 whole wheat hamburger buns

4 slices of pepper jack cheese

Lettuce leaves, for topping

Tomato slices, for topping

Avocado slices, for topping

BBQ sauce, for drizzling

Instructions

In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, chopped red onion, minced garlic, smoked paprika, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and olive oil. Mix gently until all ingredients are well combined; avoid overmixing to ensure tender burgers.

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 1-inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing during grilling.

Preheat your grill (or a grill pan) to medium-high heat. Once hot, lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.

Place the turkey patties on the grill and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). If using, place a slice of pepper jack cheese on each patty during the last minute of grilling to allow it to melt.

While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the hamburger buns on the grill for about 1-2 minutes until golden and warm.

Assemble your burgers by placing a turkey patty on each bottom bun. Top with lettuce, tomato slices, and avocado slices. Drizzle with BBQ sauce before placing the top bun on.

Serve immediately and enjoy your smoky grilled turkey burgers as a delicious and healthier alternative to beef!
