Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)

1/4 cup finely diced onion

1 clove garlic, minced

1 large egg

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for a hint of smokiness)

1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying)

For the gravy:

1 cup beef broth (low-sodium)

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon flour (to thicken)

1/4 cup sliced mushrooms

1/2 cup sliced onions

Salt & pepper to taste

Fresh parsley for garnishing

Instructions

Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, diced onion, garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix until all ingredients are well combined but do not overwork the meat; this keeps the steaks tender.

Shape the Patties: Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions and shape each into an oval or round patty, about 3/4 inch thick.

Cook the Patties: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties carefully. Cook for 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are nicely browned and cooked through. Transfer the patties to a plate and cover to keep warm.

Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, add the onions and mushrooms, sautéing until the onions become translucent (about 3-4 minutes). Sprinkle flour over the cooked onions and mushrooms, stirring constantly for about 1 minute. Gradually add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce. Stir well to combine and bring to a simmer. Allow the gravy to thicken for about 3-5 minutes. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.

Combine: Return the cooked Salisbury steaks to the skillet with the gravy and spoon the sauce over them. Let them simmer together for an additional 2-3 minutes to meld the flavors.

Serve: Serve the Salisbury steaks warm, generously topped with the gravy. Garnish with fresh parsley for a touch of color. Pair with mashed potatoes or egg noodles for a delightful meal.
