Ingredients

1 loaf of brioche bread, sliced (about 10 slices)

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Maple syrup, for serving

Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Fresh berries, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.

Layer the Bread: Arrange half of the brioche slices in a single layer at the bottom of the greased baking dish, slightly overlapping as needed.

Create the Egg Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Add the Pecan Crunch: If you’re using pecans, you can either mix them into the egg mixture or sprinkle them over the first layer of brioche.

Soak the Bread: Pour half of the egg mixture evenly over the first layer of bread. Make sure all pieces are well-coated. Follow with the remaining slices of bread laid on top, and pour the remaining egg mixture over this layer, gently pressing down to ensure all the bread absorbs the liquid.

Chill: Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. For best results, allow it to soak overnight to develop the flavors fully.

Bake: Once ready, uncover the dish and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the egg mixture has set in the center.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, then slice into squares. Serve warm with maple syrup and fresh berries on the side.

Enjoy your delightful Cinnamon Swirl Oven-Baked French Toast, perfect for a weekend brunch or special occasion!
