Ingredients

12 oz ziti or penne pasta

1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy, casings removed)

1 medium onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

24 oz marinara sauce (your favorite brand or homemade)

1 cup ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (plus extra for topping)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 tsp dried oregano

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat & Phase In: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large oven-safe skillet or pan, heat over medium-high heat.

Cook the Sausage: Add the Italian sausage, breaking it up with a spoon. Sauté until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.

Sauté the Veggies: Add the diced onion and garlic to the pan. Sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

Mix in Pasta: Stir in the uncooked ziti or penne pasta, marinara sauce, dried oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.

Combine with Cheese: Add the ricotta cheese and half of the mozzarella cheese. Mix gently until the pasta is well coated.

Add Water: Pour in 2 cups of water, stirring to ensure the pasta is submerged in the sauce.

Bake: Cover the skillet tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Finish with Cheese: Remove from the oven, uncover, and give it a good stir. Top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Final Bake: Return to the oven (uncovered) and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve & Garnish: Once out of the oven, let it sit for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired, and enjoy your one-pan wonder!
