Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 medium onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes with Italian herbs

2 cups beef broth

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon sugar (to balance acidity)

2 cups elbow macaroni

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Cook the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Break it apart with a wooden spoon and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Sauté Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent and fragrant.

Mix in Tomatoes and Seasoning: Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes (with the juice), beef broth, Italian seasoning, and sugar. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

Add Pasta: Once simmering, stir in the elbow macaroni. Cover the skillet and let it cook for about 10-12 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and has absorbed some of the sauce, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Melt the Cheese: Once the pasta is cooked, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the Beefaroni. Cover the skillet again and let it sit for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and let it cool for a minute. If desired, sprinkle fresh basil over the top for added flavor and a pop of color. Serve hot and enjoy your homemade Beefaroni!
