Ingredients

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup pure maple syrup or honey

1 cup Greek yogurt (plain, non-fat or low-fat)

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup dark chocolate chips (optional)

¼ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, combine the cocoa powder, whole wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk them together until well blended.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate large bowl, whisk together the maple syrup or honey, Greek yogurt, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. If using, fold in the dark chocolate chips and nuts for added texture and flavor.

Bake the Brownies: Pour the brownie mixture into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and Slice: Once baked, remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing into squares.

Serve and Enjoy: Enjoy these guilt-free brownies warm or store them in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
