Ingredients

400g firm tofu, drained and pressed

1/2 cup cornstarch

1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons sriracha (adjust to taste)

1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (for vegan option)

1 teaspoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon minced garlic

1 tablespoon minced ginger

1 tablespoon chopped green onions (for garnish)

Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes. This can be done by slicing the tofu block into slabs and then cutting each slab into cubes.

Coat with Cornstarch: In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until well-coated. This will help create a crispy exterior when frying.

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Ensure the oil is hot enough by testing with a small piece of tofu; it should sizzle upon contact.

Fry the Tofu: Carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the hot oil in a single layer. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. You may need to work in batches. Remove the crispy tofu and place it on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Make the Spicy Glaze: In a separate bowl, mix together the soy sauce, sriracha, honey (or maple syrup), rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and minced ginger. Adjust the heat level by changing the amount of sriracha according to your preference.

Combine Tofu and Glaze: In the same skillet (remove excess oil if needed), reduce heat to low and pour the spicy glaze over the crispy tofu. Toss gently to coat the tofu evenly in the sauce. Let it cook in the glaze for about 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.

Serve: Remove from heat and transfer the glazed tofu to a serving platter. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for a pop of color and added flavor.

Enjoy your Fried Tofu with Spicy Glaze as an appetizer or as part of a main dish served with rice or noodles!
