Ingredients

2 large sweet onions (such as Vidalia)

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon paprika

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)

Cooking spray

Instructions

Prep the Onions: Peel the onions and slice them into ½-inch thick rings. Carefully separate the rings and set aside.

Make the Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Gradually add the buttermilk to the dry mixture, stirring until you achieve a smooth batter.

Coat the Onion Rings: Dip each onion ring first into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat with the panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure an even coating.

Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.

Arrange in the Air Fryer: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the coated onion rings in a single layer in the basket, being careful not to overcrowd them. You may need to cook in batches.

Air Fry: Cook the onion rings in the air fryer for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.

Serve: Once done, remove them from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, like ranch or spicy ketchup.
