Bourbon is more than just a beverage; it’s a versatile ingredient that can transform a dish, especially in baking. The deep, caramel notes of bourbon complement sweet dishes beautifully, enhancing flavors in ways that other ingredients simply cannot. When combined with cinnamon and sugar, bourbon adds a layer of sophistication and a hint of warmth that makes these cinnamon rolls stand out. The alcohol content cooks off during baking, leaving behind the essence of bourbon that beautifully mingles with the other ingredients.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)

1 tsp salt

1/2 cup whole milk, warmed (about 110°F)

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Filling:

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

2 tbsp ground cinnamon

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 tbsp bourbon (or to taste)

1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

For the Cream Cheese Glaze:

4 oz cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup powdered sugar

2 tbsp milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

    - In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, granulated sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

      - Add melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the mixture. Mix well until combined.

        - Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.

          First Rise:

            - Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

              Prepare the Filling:

                - In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and softened butter until well combined. Stir in the bourbon (adjust the amount to your preference) and mix until smooth. If using, stir in chopped pecans.

                  Roll out the Dough:

                    - Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 16x12 inches).

                      Assemble the Rolls:

                        - Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the dough rectangle. Starting from one edge, tightly roll it up into a log, pinching to seal the seam. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

                          Second Rise:

                            - Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes, until they puff up nicely.

                              Bake the Rolls:

                                - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and the center rolls are cooked through.

                                  Prepare the Cream Cheese Glaze:

                                    - While the rolls bake, whisk together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

                                      Glaze the Rolls:

                                        - Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly. Drizzle the cream cheese glaze over the top while still warm.

                                          Serve and Enjoy:

                                            - Serve warm, and enjoy the fluffy, bourbon-infused cinnamon rolls with a touch of cream cheese sweetness!
