Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (or turkey)

1 cup breadcrumbs

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups marinara sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Fresh basil, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Meatballs: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

Form the Meatballs: Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. You should get around 20 meatballs.

Cook the Meatballs: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the meatballs in batches until they are golden on the outside. This should take about 5 minutes. They don’t need to be fully cooked as they will continue cooking in the oven.

Layer the Casserole: In a large baking dish, pour half of the marinara sauce on the bottom. Place the browned meatballs on top in a single layer. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the meatballs.

Add Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese evenly over the top.

Bake: Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Sprinkle with fresh basil before serving.
