Ingredients

12 oz ziti pasta

2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)

1 cup ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the ziti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and return to the pot.

Prepare the Sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the marinara sauce and minced garlic. Simmer for about 5 minutes, letting the flavors meld together. Remove from heat.

Make the Cheese Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella cheese, half of the Parmesan cheese, the egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well-blended.

Combine Ingredients: In the pot with the cooked ziti, pour in the sauce and stir well. Then, fold in the cheese mixture until the pasta is well-coated.

Assemble the Baked Ziti: Spoon half of the ziti mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle half of the remaining mozzarella cheese over the top. Layer the rest of the ziti mixture on top, and finish with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and golden brown.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil, if desired. Serve hot and enjoy your cheesy baked ziti!
