Ingredients

1 pound (450g) fresh mushrooms (cremini or button)

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Juice of half a lemon

Grated Parmesan cheese (optional for serving)

Instructions

Clean the Mushrooms: Gently wipe the mushrooms with a damp cloth to remove any dirt. Avoid rinsing them under water to prevent them from becoming soggy.

Melt the Butter: In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Allow it to foam slightly without browning.

Cook the Garlic: Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned. Stir frequently to prevent the garlic from burning.

Sauté the Mushrooms: Add the cleaned mushrooms to the skillet in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms are golden brown and have released their moisture.

Add Herbs and Seasoning: Once the mushrooms are nicely browned, add the thyme, parsley, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes for the flavors to meld.

Finish with Lemon Juice: Just before serving, squeeze the juice of half a lemon over the mushroom mixture and stir gently.

Serve: Transfer the buttery herb garlic mushrooms to a serving dish. If desired, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese for an extra layer of flavor.
