Ingredients

For the Brownies:

1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)

2 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (optional)

For the Cream Cheese Filling:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup heavy whipping cream

For Assembly:

1/2 cup milk (for soaking)

Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Brownies: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until combined.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture until combined. Fold in the chocolate chips if desired.

Bake the Brownies: Pour the brownie batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Spread evenly and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Let cool completely.

Make the Cream Cheese Filling: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth. Add the vanilla extract. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until fully combined.

Assemble the Cake: Once the brownies are completely cooled, cut them into squares or rectangles. Prepare a shallow dish with milk. Dip each brownie piece in the milk for a second or two, allowing them to absorb the liquid but not become soggy.

Layer the Cake: On a serving platter or cake stand, start layering the soaked brownie pieces with the cream cheese filling. Alternate between brownie layers and cream cheese filling until all the brownies and filling are used, finishing with a layer of cream cheese.

Chill: Cover the refrigerator cake with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for the best flavor.

Serve: Before serving, garnish with chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder if desired. Slice into squares and enjoy your chilled delight!
