Ingredients

1 package (16 oz) refrigerated flaky biscuits

1 pound breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 cups whole milk

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

2 large eggs

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.

Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the breakfast sausage until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease, leaving about 1 tablespoon in the pan.

Make the Gravy: Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage in the skillet. Stir for 1-2 minutes to coat the sausage and cook off the raw flour taste. Slowly whisk in the milk, then add garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. Cook this mixture, stirring occasionally, until it thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Prepare the Biscuits: Open the package of biscuits and cut each biscuit into quarters. Place the biscuit pieces evenly in the prepared baking dish.

Add Cheese and Eggs: Pour the sausage gravy mixture over the biscuit pieces, ensuring they are evenly coated. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.

Add Egg Mixture: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs. Pour the eggs evenly over the casserole, allowing it to seep through the biscuits and sausage.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil (to prevent over-browning) and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and the casserole has set.

Serve: Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired, and serve warm.
