Ingredients

4 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional for garnish)

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs until well beaten.

Gradually add the sugar while continuing to whisk until fully dissolved.

Stir in the milk, vanilla extract, and salt until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

Pour the custard mixture into a buttered 8-inch square baking dish or individual ramekins for serving.

For a classic touch, sprinkle a little nutmeg or cinnamon on top of the custard mixture (optional).

Place the baking dish inside a larger baking pan. Fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches about halfway up the sides of the custard dish. This creates a water bath that helps bake the custard evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes, or until the custard is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. You can serve it warm or refrigerate and serve chilled. If desired, add a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence.
